HERRIN – A former area firefighter who was instrumental in starting the Williamson County Fire Protection District has passed away.

Chief Lindell Coriasco of Toone, TN, and formerly of Herrin, passed away Friday at Regional One Healthcare in Memphis, TN. He was 83. That’s according to his obituary from McCluskie-Miller Funeral Services in Herrin.

According to the Williamson County Fire Protection District Facebook page, Coriasco was the driving force behind the formation of the fire district and built it from the ground up. Coriasco made many sacrifices to see that the fire district volunteers had everything they needed to serve the residents of the unincorporated areas of Williamson County. This district will forever be his legacy.

According to Coriasco’s obituary, his firefighting career began in 1964 when he was hired as a a firefighter in Herrin and remained in that role until he was promoted to Captain, Public Education and Fire Prevention Office and Shift Commander in 1976. Coriasco was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief and served in that position while also being appointed Herrin’s Building Codes Inspector in 1980. Coriasco was appointed Herrin Fire Chief in 1982 and served until 1990 when he was appointed as Fire Chief for the Williamson County Fire Protection District.

Coriasco’s funeral is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Williamson County Fire Protection District Station #1 on East Main in Marion. Burial with Fire Service Honors will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service Saturday at the Williamson County Fire Protection District Station #1 in Marion.
