WEST CITY – West City Police say a man wanted for failing to register as a sex offender and violating bail bond is facing additional charges after being arrested Monday.
The West City Police Department posted on Facebook that around 6:30 Monday night, officers received an anonymous tip that a wanted juvenile sexual predator was located inside the Benton/West City Walmart. Officers responded and found 29-year-old Matthew A. Rutherford in the grocery department. It was confirmed that Rutherford had active warrants for failure to register as a sex offender in Washington County, and violation of bail bond in Jefferson County – one being a no bond warrant, the other with a $50,000 bond.
When officers approached Rutherford, he fled through the store without regard to customers safety. Rutherford was apprehended near Rural King.
Police say in addition to the active warrants, Rutherford is also charged with retail theft and aggravated battery to a police officer.
