CARMI – White County Government has been selected to receive an Energy Transition Community Grant Program grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. This program is funded by the Energy Transition Fund, created by the 2021 Climate and Equitable Jobs Act.

Through a Phase 1 application process, White County Government has been awarded $1,207,426.00. Energy Transition Community Grants must be used to plan for or address the economic and social impact on the community or region of plant or mine retirement or transition. Phase 2 of the grant requires a stakeholder engagement process.

White County Government will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, April 11 in Courtroom A at the White County Courthouse in Carmi at 6 p.m. to provide interested parties an opportunity to give input and feedback on the proposed use(s) of the grant.

According to White County Board Chairman Cassie Pigg, “This sizable award will be an incredible benefit to our community. We have the opportunity to use these to aid in restoring and developing the County. The County Board is looking forward to hosting a public forum to solicit input on the proper appropriation of these funds. We want to choose the best course of action that will have lasting benefits for our citizens and our economy!”

Interested stake holders are invited to provide comments either at the public hearing or by prior written statement.

Written comments should be submitted to the White County Clerk’s Office, P.O. Box 339, Carmi, IL 62821.
