CARBONDALE – An investigation into an early Friday morning shooting in Carbondale led to two juvenile arrests.

According to Carbondale Police, officers responded to investigate a shooting around 2:50 a.m. in the 500 block of South Graham Street. The victim had been attacked inside their home by a known acquaintance armed with a gun. The suspect acquaintance struck the victim with the gun during the attack. The victim defended themself by firing a gun at the suspect during the attack.

The 17-year-old juvenile suspect suffered two gunshot wounds and was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. The suspect was then transferred to an out of state hospital for further treatment in stable condition. The victim suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

Police also arrested a second juvenile suspect for charges related to the battery offense that started the incident. The juvenile has been charged with Armed Robbery, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Mob Action and Battery. The juvenile was not injured and will be taken to the Jackson County Courthouse for a juvenile detention hearing.
