CARBONDALE – Carbondale Fire responded to a reported structure fire at a three-story apartment complex just before 7:30 Saturday night.
When firefighters arrived, they found the fire outside a vacant lower-level apartment. The fire was situated beneath a wooden exterior stairway and a second-floor wooden walkway that provided access to the apartments above. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.
Two people were inside an apartment located above the affected level. Their normal exit route was compromised. They continued speaking to firefighters and stayed where they were while crews put out the fire. After making the scene safe, the occupants were able to leave within minutes without incident. They have been temporarily relocated. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
