CARTERVILLE (JALC NEWS) – John A. Logan College officials announced that construction on the long-anticipated West Lobby expansion has begun earlier than originally scheduled. The College’s general contractor experienced an opening in its schedule, allowing work to begin immediately.
While the early start is expected to shorten the overall construction timeline and lead to an earlier completion date, it also creates temporary access challenges to several campus locations. A map identifying affected areas, entrances, and alternate routes is attached for reference.
“The earlier start is good news for the project’s long-term completion, but we recognize it will require short-term adjustments for students, employees, and visitors,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to improve and expand the College’s main entrance.”
Temporary Access Changes
- Front Door to West Lobby Closed
Effective immediately, the west lobby’s main front entrance is locked and unavailable for use. - West Lobby Remains Open Through Fall Semester
Although the front entrance is closed, the West Lobby itself will remain open through December 15, 2025. It may be accessed through the B Wing and F Wing. Visitors should expect intermittent construction activity in the lobby, including the removal of the information desk and other fixtures, in the coming days. - B Wing Access
The B Wing is accessible from the Blue Lot via the sidewalk adjacent to the Administration Building. - F Wing Access
The F Wing can be reached from either the Gold Lot or the Blue Lot. - A Building to B Wing Doors
The doors connecting the B Wing and A Building will remain open; however, temporary closures may occur. Signage will be posted in advance when these doors must be locked. - Pergola Removal
Removal of the pergola will begin Tuesday, November 18, and continue through the end of the week.
Project Timeline
The West Lobby expansion, partially funded by the Illinois Capital Development Board, is scheduled to last 548 calendar days and is expected to be completed by May 31, 2027.
John A. Logan College encourages all campus visitors to review the attached map and allow additional time when navigating the affected areas. Updates will be shared regularly as construction progresses.
