CARBONDALE – As part of the state’s largest-ever infrastructure program announced Wednesday by Gov. JB Pritzker and IDOT, the City of Carbondale has been awarded almost $2 million in grant funding to repave West College Street from South Forest Avenue to South University Avenue, West Cherry Street from South Oakland Avenue to South Illinois Avenue and Poplar Street from West Mill Street to West Oak Street.
The grant requires no local matching funds, ensuring that the project will be completed at no cost to the city or residents.
This investment will enhance transportation safety, improve road conditions, and support long-term community development.
City officials will provide updates on the project timeline as planning and design progress in coordination with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
