MT. VERNON – A Mt. Vernon man was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder and murder involving mob action in the death of 57-year-old Patrick Williamson following a jury trial in Jefferson County Court.

According to Mt. Vernon Police, 68-year-old Eddie Bennett’s conviction stems from a previous investigation into the tragic death of Williamson earlier this year.

Williamson was found murdered in the 600 block of South 15th Street during the early morning hours of March 24. Police say Williamson was robbed. Williamson worked as a car salesman at Monken Toyota.

Bennett is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 28.

Two others also arrested for murder in this case are set to appear in Jefferson County Court soon.

Online court records show 60-year-old Laura Lee Beneway of Bonnie is scheduled to have a pre-trial hearing Wednesday. A final pre-trial hearing for 66-year-old Peter M. Harris of Mt. Vernon is set for July 22 with a jury trial beginning July 29.
