CARMI – A Carmi man has been charged with Attempted Residential Arson, Domestic Violence, and Assault following an incident just before 3 Tuesday afternoon at a home in the 500 block of West Sycamore Street in Carmi.

According to Carmi Police, officers responded to a report that 50-year-old Dale R. McLain locked his father and sister out of the house. He also took a can of gas into the house to burn it down.

McLain’s sister signed a complaint against McLain for making threats toward her and her father.

Officers tried to talk McLain into coming out of the house, but he finally locked the door stating he would kill himself.

After getting permission from the house owner, and seeing McLain in the house with the gas can and a lighter, officers entered the house and took McLain into custody.

McLain was then charged with the offenses we mentioned earlier and taken to White County Jail.
