WEST FRANKFORT – A West Frankfort man has been charged with Aggravated Unlawful Restraint and Aggravated Assault for allegedly holding a family member hostage and for being armed with a handgun Sunday night in West Frankfort.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon, 73-year-old William B. Ice III is lodged in the Franklin County Jail.

Sheriff Bacon says the sheriff’s office got a call about the hostage situation just after 8 p.m. Deputies responded to the home and requested further assistance from West Frankfort Police and Illinois State Police.

The situation ended around 10 p.m. when Ice exited the home, still armed, but complied with orders from law enforcement. He was then charged with the offenses we mentioned earlier and taken to jail. The family member was not injured during the incident.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the West Frankfort Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and the West Frankfort Fire Department for their assistance.
