MT. VERNON (WMIX) – An 18-year-old Mt. Vernon man remains in the Jefferson County Jail pending a detention hearing on weapons charges.

Dreydyn Hart was formally charged Friday in Jefferson County Court with Class 2 felony possession of a stolen firearm, Class 3 felony possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, and Class 4 felonies for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon as a minor.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, officers responded around 1 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a fight at DeeBee’s Bar in the 300 block of South Ninth Street in Mt. Vernon.

Upon their arrival, one subject fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. A search of a vehicle in the bar’s parking lot reportedly revealed a loaded, stolen firearm.

Witnesses were interviewed and it was determined Hart was the person in possession of the weapon. However, he had left the parking lot just as officers were arriving. Then on Thursday, officers located Hart and brought him in to the police station for an interview. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

He’ll remain in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Feb. 22.
