MARION – The Marion Fire Department has released more information regarding that early Monday morning fire at the Little Nashville Café, located at 1200 Tower Square Plaza, in Marion.

Marion Fire Chief Tim Barnett says firefighters responded to a report of power lines arcing on the side the building around 5:18 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, the building was filled with smoke. They forced open the doors to get inside and found heavy, dark smoke and moderate heat conditions. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the fire was in the basement of the attached building located at 102 E. Main St. This is where Martini Joe’s on the Square was located. It has not been open since September according to the bar’s Facebook page.

Firefighters forced the basement door open and found heavy smoke and moderate heat conditions. They made entry and advanced a hose line to extinguish the fire.

Marion Fire sent out an alert to other area fire departments asking for help with the fire. Several responded with additional equipment, manpower and assisted with extinguishment, ventilation, and overhaul.

The Marion Fire Department thank the Herrin Fire Department, Lake of Egypt Fire Protection District, Carterville Fire Department, Williamson County Fire Protection District, Johnston City Fire Department, Marion Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Street Department, Marion Water Department, Marion Safety Director and the Office of the State Fire Marshal for their assistance.

Meanwhile, Little Nashville Café owner Aaron Smith told us Monday he is working with the health department to determine the best course of action to safely reopen as soon as possible.
