MT. VERNON (WMIX) – Jefferson County officials are reminding pet owners that extreme winter weather is expected starting today and the predicted temperatures will be capable of killing outdoor pets.

They ask owners to take proper precautions for their animals. Dogs must have a doghouse with three walls and a floor. Dog houses must also have adequate straw.

They warn that any animals found outdoors without proper accommodations will be immediately impounded and there will be a fee to reclaim your animal.
