MARION – Three Marion Police Department employees could be promoted to new roles at tonight’s Marion City Council meeting.

According to the Council’s agenda, they will discuss and possibly approve the recommendation of the merit board, Public Health and Safety Commissioner John Barwick and Police Chief David Fitts to promote Officer Nick Triffo to the rank of Sergeant to fill the vacancy in the patrol division effective Nov. 28, promoting Detective Maria Dwyer to the rank of Detective Sergeant to fill the vacancy created by Detective Sergeant T.J. Warran’s retirement with her promotion being effective Dec. 30, and promoting Summar Calhoun to Detective to fill the vacancy created by the promotion of Detective Sergeant Maria Dwyer with her promotion being effective Nov. 28.

In other business, the Council is expected to appoint Marion Chief of Staff Cody Moake as STAR Bond Administrator for the City of Marion, discuss and adopt a resolution directing over $107,000 over two years in ARPA funds to the Southern Illinois Coalition for the Homeless to perform outreach services with the City of Marion, discuss with possible approval exercising an ordinance regarding the City’s Home Rule Authority in regard to the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act, the low-bid for the Halfway Road Storm Drain Improvements project using funds available in the project fund, a couple of ordinances dealing with a Residential TIF Redevelopment Agreement with Castellano Properties for their project at 608 N. Madison and 508 E. Boulevard, and a Hub TIF Commercial Façade Grant application from Randy and Jill Lewis for 312 W. Main St.
