MT. VERNON – The Mt. Vernon City Council agreed at Monday night’s meeting to seek proposals for a park and recreation market study and development of a master plan.

Mayor John Lewis says the first step is to find out if the city can afford what would likely be an indoor activity or recreation center.

Lewis notes that before spending upwards of $25 to $26 million on something, the city wants to make sure they offer the activities the community most wants and that it’s built in the right location.

The mayor said the council would like to have the right structure built in the right location and without placing a tax increase on its residents.

The public is encouraged to share their opinions on these matters with the mayor and council members.
