CARBONDALE – A Chicago man is facing gun charges following a weekend disturbance in Carbondale.

According to Carbondale Police, officers responded to the 800 block of East Grand Avenue regarding a reported disturbance around 3:50 Sunday morning.

Officers learned there had been a battery and a firearm discharged at a social gathering in the area. Officers recovered a firearm that had been hidden at the scene. Officers identified the suspect as 19-year-old Khalil E. Oliver of Chicago.  

Officers obtained a search warrant with the assistance of the Jackson County State’s Attorney for Oliver’s residence on the SIU campus that led to the discovery of evidence in the investigation. Officers charged Oliver with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. Oliver was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
