MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon Police are investigating a Thursday night shooting that sent one person to the hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

According to Mt. Vernon Police, around 7:44 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the parking lot behind Times Square Mall at 3917 Broadway for a report of gunshots. Soon after, a local hospital reported having a victim with a gunshot wound.

Police and a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the hospital in addition to the mall.

The 18-year-old male victim was flown to a regional hospital for further treatment and is in stable condition.

An on-duty detective immediately started investigating the incident and other detectives with the Mt. Vernon Police Department were called in to assist with the investigation. Several witnesses were interviewed and leads were obtained in the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and two people of interest are being sought.
