METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023.

August 7, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to a disturbance at the Humma Apartment on E. 3rd St. Upon arrival, Officers learned that Izell Jones, 45, of Cairo, IL had taken her apartment key and left. Officers searched the area and located Jones. Jones who had been previously trespassed from Massac County Housing property, was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass to Property. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis officers were called to the Ft. Massac Rest Area located on U.S. 45 and I-24 for a disturbance. Keith L. Jamison, 50, who stated is homeless, was trespassed from the property and given a ride. Later on in the shift, a Metropolis officer observed Jamison back at the rest area, get into a blue Toyota and drive away. Jamison has a suspended driver’s license. A traffic stop was conducted and Jamison was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass to Property, Driving while License Suspended, and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Jamison was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

August 8, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to Motel 6 for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers learned that an altercation occurred inside one of the rooms. After speaking to all parties involved, and observing visible injuries to the victim, Cecil P. Hall, 78, OF Metropolis was arrested for Domestic Battery. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Police received a 911 call stating that persons were stealing the yield sign at Filmore and 19th St. Prior to arrival, the caller stated that the vehicle was leaving the scene with the sign hanging out of the truck. A Metropolis sergeant located the vehicle and observed the sign hanging out of the truck. A traffic stop was conducted. The vehicle was occupied by the driver, Connor M. Alvey, 18, of Metropolis, and a 17 and a 14 year old juvenile male. The investigation revealed that other signs had been taken from McCracken County and Metropolis. Alvey was charged with Theft of Government Property, and Damage to Government Property. Alvey was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. The two juveniles were turned over to their parents pending charges in the juvenile courts.

August 11, 2023
A Metropolis officer observed a vehicle parked in Ft. Massac State Park after hours. A computer check revealed that Joshua A. Thompson, 25, of Metropolis had an active order of protection. The petitioner of the order was also in the vehicle. Thompson was arrested and charged with Violation of an Order of Protection. Thompson was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Thomas T. Reed, 19, of Metropolis was arrested inside a home at the Fairmount Apartments. Reed was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Battery. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Felicia R. Oliver, 47, of Metropolis was arrested in a residence of the Spence Apartments. Oliver was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Possession of Methamphetamine. Oliver was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis officer stopped a gold-colored Chevrolet for expired registration on U.S. 45 and Devers Rd. A computer check on the driver, David L. Shannon, 49, of Metropolis revealed that he had a revoked driver’s license. He could not provide proof of insurance. A search of the vehicle found an open can of beer. Shannon was charged with Driving while License Revoked, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Illegal Transportation of Open Alcohol and Expired Registration. Shannon was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

During the course of an ongoing criminal drug investigation, a search warrant was executed by members of the Southern Illinois Drug Task force, Illnois State Police and Metropolis officers. The search warrant resulted in the recovery of 900 grams of cannabis, 302 grams of fentanyl pills, more than 90 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, more than 1,250 grams of crystal methamphetamine, more than 120 grams of Ecstasy, and three loaded handguns. 38-year-old Mitra S. Tyson of Metropolis, IL, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony), Armed Violence (Class X Felony), Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver (Class X Felony), Possession of Ecstasy with Intent to Deliver (Class X Felony), Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Deliver (Class X Felony), Possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms with Intent to Deliver (Class 1 Felony), and Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver (Class 2 Felony). He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

August 12, 2023
A Metropolis officer observed a red Toyota stopped at the stop sign on Metropolis at 10th St. The officer recognized the driver, Austin L. Sumnlers, 27, of Paducah, KY. The officer was aware that Sumnlers had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by McCracken County KY for Theft and Possession of Burglary Tools. A traffic stop was conducted and Sumnlers was arrested without incident. He was charged with the warrants and Driving while License Suspended. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis officer stopped a black Ford F-150 for speeding 64 mph in a 45 mph zone, on U.S. 45 near 12th St. A compute check on the driver, Edwin Martinez, 22, of Lawrenceville, GA revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. Martinez was charged with Speeding and Driving while License Suspended. He was released on bond.

A Metropolis officer stopped a silver Ford Pick-up truck for suspended registration plates. A computer check on the driver, Roger B. Harris, 59, of Metropolis revealed that his driver’s license was revoked. He could not provide proof of insurance. Harris was charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Suspended Registration, Driving while License Revoked and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. He was released on bond.

A Metropolis officer stopped a blue Nissan for speeding 47 mph in a posted 30 mph zone on 5th St. near Ferry. A computer check on the driver, Joshlyn J. Woods, 34, of Hermitage TN revealed that her driver’s license was suspended. Woods was charged with Speeding and Driving while License Suspended. She was released on bond.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
