MCLEANSBORO – S. Charlene Vaughan, age 81 and resident of McLeansboro, IL, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023 at her residence in McLeansboro, IL.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023 at Ten Mile Baptist Church, McLeansboro, IL. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Reverend Harl Cockrum officiating the service. Burial will be conducted in Wolf Creek Cemetery, Eldorado, IL.
Charlene was born October 27, 1941 in Hamilton County, IL to Hayden and Amba (McGill) Allardin. She married Leon O. Vaughan on June 10, 1961 at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church and he preceded her in death September 21, 2002. Charlene attended Rend Lake College and received an associate degree; SIU-C with a bachelor’s degree and SIU-C with a master’s degree. She was a retired guidance counselor and was employed by Hamilton County Unit 10. Charlene was a member of the McCoy Library Board and the Hamilton Memorial Auxiliary. She was a Member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years. Charlene enjoyed walking, baking, traveling, reading, Bible study, and the church ladies breakfast and volunteering wherever needed. Charlene had a very strong faith and most of all loved being with her family.
Survivors include children Barry Vaughan and wife Kimberly, Bret Vaughan and wife Deborah, Bethany Stoll and husband Richard, Brandon Vaughan and wife Debbie; sister-in-law Leta Allardin; grandchildren Grant, Landon and Kylee Vaughan, Afton and husband Jeremy Downen, Rhet and wife Christy Vaughan, Brecca and Ella Stoll, Meredith and Audrey Vaughan; great grandchildren Daisy Downen, Brinley Downen, Kennedy Maham, JJ Maham, Rhema Vaughan, Sagan Vaughan. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents Hayden and Amba Allardin, husband Leon Vaughan, brother Deon Allardin, sister Joy Verdean Bebout, brother-in-law Homer Bebout, brother-in-law Cecil Wayne Broyles, sister-in-law Georgia Broyles, sister-in-law Charlotte Johnson and brother-in-law James H. Johnson.
