WEST FRANKFORT/BENTON – Two injury accidents were reported on I-57 in Franklin County Friday.

According to a preliminary report from Illinois State Police, the first one happened at 8:30 a.m. on northbound I-57 at milepost 68 between West Frankfort and Benton.

A semi with trailer was going north on I-57 at milepost 68 when for an unknown reason, the semi left the roadway to the right, went through the guardrail, and struck the ditch where it came to rest. The semi driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The right lane was shut down until 5 p.m. for clean-up.

The second crash happened at 3:20 p.m. on northbound I-57 at milepost 63 near West Frankfort.  

According to a preliminary report from Illinois State Police, a semi with trailer was going north on I-57 at milepost 63 in the far right lane. Traffic ahead was slowing for a crash which happened earlier in the day on Interstate 57 near milepost 68. Clean-up crews were still removing debris from the roadway. The semi began hydroplaning on the wet roadway and struck the passenger side of a pickup truck. The semi continued off the left side of the roadway and struck the concrete barrier in the median.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
