MARION – A Williamson County man has been charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting a Peace Officer and Scott’s Law in connection with an incident Monday in Marion.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were conducting a traffic stop on Route 37 north of Marion and while assisting units directed traffic to allow a vehicle that had been stopped to re-enter the roadway, an unrelated vehicle failed to yield to emergency lights nearly striking a deputy.

A deputy approached the vehicle to speak to the driver, identified as Adam L. Carter of Marion, who had since pulled into a parking lot. Carter got out of the vehicle and as he approached the front of the patrol vehicle, he was seen with a gun in his waistband.

The deputy engaged Carter wrapping his arms around him to prevent him from accessing the gun. Carter began to actively resist. A second deputy arrived to assist and Carter was taken to the ground during which time he lost control of the gun. Carter continued to actively resist and he was ultimately handcuffed.

Carter was searched prior to being placed in a patrol vehicle and located on his person was a plastic case containing two used hypodermic syringes and a clear glass smoking device that contained a burnt white residue which later field tested positive for methamphetamine. The gun was later identified as a CO2 powered pistol containing five rounds of simulated ammunition which housed BBs.

Carter was cited on the charges mentioned and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
